We are very pleased to report that Prof Derek Knottenbelt has been awarded an honorary membership of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in recognition of his lifetimes contribution towards the improvement of the health and welfare of the horse worldwide.

This is one of the highest honours that can be bestowed on a veterinarian and such an accolade has only ever been rarely given to anyone in the past.

We are immensely proud to recognise this amazing award.

Prof Derek Knottenbelt being awarded an honorary membership of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine by Professor Hal Schott, in recognition of his lifetimes contribution towards the improvement of the health and welfare of the horse worldwide

This is an amazing honour and it is humbling to be recognised by the ACVIM in this way. The work I have done has always been supported by countless others who perhaps deserve the award more than I do including my amazing family and my colleagues in academic and practice life and my countless friends with whom I share experiences and the ups and downs of veterinary practice life.

I am truly grateful to Professor Hal Schott who proposed me for the award and I recognise that with it comes responsibility as well as pleasure.

We need to push the frontiers of equine practice and welfare of horses forwards. We need to look to the future to ensure the horse is given the best possible medical care.
